Blue Ribbon Month Begins

April 3, 2012

By Angela Liddle

What a fantastic morning we had today!

Almost 150 people, including legislators, child welfare professionals, concerned citizens and others joined PFSA to kick off Child Abuse Prevention Month in Harrisburg. We presented an award to the Harrisburg Patriot-News for their coverage of the Penn State child sexual abuse case; the reward is named in honor of the late Sen.Michael A. O’Pake, a leader in child protection legislation in PA.

Our special guest speaker was Regina Brett, best-selling author and newspaper columnist. Regina shared her life lessons with humor and insight. Here are some of the things she shared:

  • You can make a big difference, no matter how little you make.
  • It’s never too late to have a happy childhood. But you are responsible for the second one.
  • Shine your light, no matter how dark the world around you appears.
  • Everyone can be important in the life of a child.

Thanks to everyone who made our April kickoff a success. Hope to see you at a Painting for Prevention event – see our website for all the dates and places.
